Expert Body Work at Veterans Auto
We are so excited about our expanding body work/body painting department here at Veterans Auto ! Our in-house painter has come to Veterans Auto from a professional body shop and brings his years of creativity and expertise to our customers to make your car the most stylish one on the block. We can do reparative or decorative paint jobs and customize each job to your specific needs and desires.
Many paint jobs are necessary as a result of harm done to the car, like a parking mishap or a brief sideswipe. When the paint on your car is damaged, there are two options:
1. Call your insurance and file a claim. Even if the damage was not your fault, it will still go on your insurance record and you will still have to pay your deductible.
2. Find a reputable shop that does body work and pay them out of pocket. It may be as much as your deductible, but it will not go on your insurance record.
Many people automatically call their insurance companies and file a claim, when in reality the better option is usually to simply pay for the repainting out of pocket.
No matter which option you choose, Veterans Auto is the place to go! If you are filing a claim with your insurance agency (especially for extensive damage), we will work with them to ensure that your claim and the repair job go as smoothly as possible. Even if it is just a small job and you are not filing an insurance claim, we will make sure that your car is looking as good as new, in no time at all.
For custom decorative bodywork with our expert painter, we would love to arrange a meeting and talk about what you want for your car and how we can help you achieve it.
For any of your reparative or decorative paint jobs, choose Veterans Auto ! And remember, with the temperatures showing no signs of dropping anytime soon, your air conditioning unit and radiator are working overtime to keep you cool! In fact, the hotter it gets, the tougher it is on your car. So give it a little TLC by bringing it in to Veterans Auto at the first sign of air conditioning or radiator malfunctioning in order to prevent further damage and keep your car running great for the rest of the summer and well into the winter.

Is Your Vehicle Ready for a Summer Vacation?
No doubt you are more than ready for your upcoming summer vacation—but is your vehicle?
When you are on vacation or taking a road trip, relaxing with friends and family, and having a good time, one of the worst things to happen is car trouble. Imagine the air conditioning going out on your yearly vacation to Florida—in July. It is absolutely imperative to have your vehicle looked at and serviced before you leave to prevent something unfortunate like that happening.
But what things should you have looked at? When you bring your car to Veterans Auto for a little pre-vacation tune-up, we will look at the following items:
- Air conditioning. Is it working? And more importantly, is it working well? A unit that blows lukewarm air is useless. We also check the coolant system and fluid levels to make sure you are not dealing with any leaks. We promise to have your air conditioning system blowing shaved ice by the time you are ready to leave!
- Oil levels. Have you had your oil changed recently? Can you even remember the last time you had your oil changed? Getting it changed before your trip is essential. If you don’t need a full oil change, we will check your oil levels and, if needed, top you off, so everything will run smoothly on your journey.
- Tire pressure. A flat can put a real damper on a road trip, especially if it happens because of an avoidable issue like a simple tire check.
- Windshield wipers. If it has not rained in a while, you may not be aware of the condition of your wipers and the wiper fluid levels. We check both and make sure you will be able to drive safely, so you are prepared for all types of weather!
No matter where you are going and what you are doing this summer, bringing your vehicle into Veterans Auto for a pre-trip checkup is a great way to make sure that everything will go as planned, and at a price that will not break the bank.

Emissions Help at Veterans Auto
Everyone’s vehicle registration tags expire at different times throughout the year, and as we see that little date creep closer and closer, we begin to think about emissions. In the state of Tennessee, every registered vehicle must pass the emissions test on a yearly basis. If you pass, the process is relatively painless (if you can disregard sitting in line for thirty minutes on your lunch break). But if you fail, there are any number of reasons why, ranging from a harmless $10 gas cap replacement to a multi-thousand dollar leak somewhere. To compound the matter, the state only gives you a set amount of time to fix the problem before you have to come back and attempt to pass emissions again.
There are a variety of different things that can cause you to fail emissions. Spark plugs, exhaust issues, gas tank leaks, loose gas caps, and more will also yield a failing result. One of the most important things to double check is your “check engine” light. If the “check engine” light is on for any reason, you will fail emissions automatically. The light can come on for several different reasons: some very serious, others very simple and having nothing to do with the actual engine at all—for example, a short in the electrical wires of the dashboard. But either way, it must be off when you go to pass emissions.
So if you happen to already know you are having issues with one of those things, the best thing you can do is bring your car into Veterans Auto for an emissions checkup before you go—that way. If there are other issues, we will have the time to address them without worrying about that government-mandated deadline. We will be able to look at a car and tell if it will pass emissions or not. We will get you ready for inspection in no time, at a portion of the price of other auto shops.
So if you need help passing emissions or suspect you may have a problem that would keep you from passing, contact Veterans Auto today! You can give us a call at (615) 712-9777, or visit our website at veterans-auto.com for testimonials and more information about all of our services.
Get Your Air Conditioning Fixed in Nashville, TN
For some, fixing the air conditioning in their car is considered a luxury or an unnecessary expenditure. However, it is important to fix your air conditioning before a bigger, and more expensive, problem arises.
There are a variety of reasons why air conditioning in a car may stop working in the first place:
- Rubber begins to break down after five years, and if your car is more than five years old it may be that the rubber in the gaskets, seals, and/or o-rings of your air conditioning unit has begun to disintegrate.
- There are one or more fans under the hood of your car, and if the one that cools your air conditioning unit breaks down or stops working, the unit will overheat and break down.
- If a leak occurs, all of the refrigerant/coolant will eventually leak out, and when that happens, the compressor will stop working.
- A blown fuse or a broken switch on the dashboard can also cause the air conditioning to break or function improperly. However, it is important to get that checked out because a blown fuse can also be caused by a malfunctioning compressor.
If your compressor is simply malfunctioning, it can be fixed or replaced relatively easily. But if it breaks down entirely and releases the fluids and chemicals into the rest of your car, it can cause all sorts of problems and has the potential to double the expenses of getting everything back in proper working order.
Furthermore, the cost of parts to fix your air conditioning goes up with the temperature. Manufacturers know that people are desperate when their air conditioning breaks in the summertime, and they charge far less in the spring, fall, and winter.
If your air conditioning is not working, now is the time to have it looked at! Give us a call at Veterans Auto at 615-720-3988 and let us help set you up for a cool summer.
Nashville Guide: Top 5 Ways to Extend the Life of Your Brakes
(1) Watch Your Speed
Speeding increases use of brakes. Stick to the speed limit and your brakes will be needed less often which will extend the life span.
(2) Decrease Rate of Braking
The rate at which you brake affects how long you will be able to go without replacing them. There is a trick: when you brake, picture a glass of water on your dashboard. If the water would have sloshed out of the glass, you braked too quickly.
(3) Do Not Tailgate
Tailgating will help prevent the water from sloshing out of the glass in #2. Keep a good distance (about 3 car lengths) between you and the car in front of you. Not only will this extend the life of your brakes, it will also decrease the chance of an accident.
(4) Maintenance Check Ups
When you get your oil change, have your mechanic check your brakes. This will allow you to be proactive and take action before the brake pads get so low that it is affecting your rotors. Rotors are much more costly to replace.
(5) Do Not Wait Til You Hear a Squeak
By the time the brakes are squeaking, damage might be occurring. Do not wait! Be proactive!
