Who Are You Going To Call? The Car People!

Be Safe: First of all, make sure you and anyone else in the car is okay. Remain calm. Get over to the side of the road.

Call 911: Even if you do not feel hurt, you may not realize you are because of the adrenaline pumping in your body. They will dispatch the police to the scene when you dial the emergency number as well as ambulance if you need it. Some cars are equipped with an automatic system that dials for you in the event of an accident. This is such a nice feature because most of the time you are in shock after an accident occurs.

Be Prepared: Accidents happen. We cannot always predict it. So, be ready and always have a copy of your insurance in your vehicle. And never forget your license.

Take Pictures: Most phones these days come with a camera. Utilize this feature and take as many photos as you can take. If you are hurt, make sure someone else takes the pictures.

Gather Information: Sometimes you are the innocent victim, but the other party involved will try to prosecute you. Make sure you get all of their information including their name, number, email, make of car, license plate number, and insurance information. Nashville Spring Vehicle Inspection Checklist

Winter weather is harsh on everything including our skin, plants and vehicles. Our vehicles are made to withstand the harsh temperature changes, but within the car, there are certain parts that do not handle it as well. Anytime there is a 20 degree or more temperature change, there are parts of the car that are at risk. Here is a list of vehicle components that need to be examined and checked out after the winter weather has passed and before Spring is fully upon us in Nashville:

(1) Tires

Tire pressure can affect your mileage as well as the overall performance of your vehicle. With temperature changes as mentioned above, the tire pressure can become inconsistent due to the contracting or expanding air inside. With incorrect pressure, your tires and other parts of the car will experience higher levels of wear and tear. If you drive a newer car, you will be notified by a tire pressure light or signal. If you drive an older car, you will need to manually check your tire pressure regularly, and The Car People can help you if you are uncertain about how to do this.

(2) Alignment

Throughout the winter, the roads are coated with salt mixtures to prevent freezing, and during years like this year in Nashville, there are plows scraping the roads, causing high amounts of damage. This along with the expansion and contraction of the cement can cause extreme potholes to form. If you have driven around Nashville, you know exactly what we are talking about. There are times when you can go around the potholes, but other times when you have cars next to you and there is no where to go but right on top of it. These potholes can cause extreme alignment issues for your car which can cause longterm damage. Keep you car healthier longer by having the alignment checked today!

(3) Brakes

Brakes can be affected by the temperature change and the increased braking experienced from the potholes in the road. Without proper brake functioning, you are not safe. The Car People recommend bringing your car in regularly to ensure your brakes are working properly to keep you safe!

(4) Heating/Cooling System

Low fluids or leaks that occurred during winter can cause your heating and cooling systems to work inefficiently. If your car is putting out air that is not quite cold or not quite hot, you may want to have it check out. The Car People can take a look at your vehicle to make sure it is being maintained properly.

(5) Windshield Wipers

With spring comes rain, and rain can be dangerous for drivers without properly working windshield wipers. Being able to see the road is a major part of safely commuting, so to make sure you are safe, and have them examined.

The Car People know how important your safety on the road is. Keeping your vehicle maintained is the best way to do this. With every oil change, receive a free vehicle inspection. Also, if you are looking to buy a used car with your tax refund this year, make sure and have us look over it to make sure it is not a lemon. Start spring off right with an inspected vehicle in Nashville!

Winter In Nashville can be tough on your Car, Truck or SUV

Everyone knows that Tennessean winters can be tough on your car or truck, but does anyone know why? We asked our experts here at The Car People, LLC to learn just how the winter season can affect your vehicle’s performance and condition as it seems we’re still months away from spring here in Nashville.

Performance:

Winter can wreak havoc on just about every part of your vehicle, so it’s a good idea to have a licensed technician from any of our Tech Professionals at any of our The Car People LLC’s locations in Nashville and now Murfreesboro!

Brakes:

Debris, such as dirt, road salt, etc., can build up on the brake system causing them to rust and sometimes bind, leading the way to uneven and premature wear.

The Car People’s advice: Have your brakes checked out by a professional in the early spring.

Tire pressure and condition:

Weather changes affect tire pressure, and that can often times lead to premature wear and reduction in handling of your vehicle. Especially weather this cold! Driving over potholes caused by winter can damage your tire’s sidewall, weakening its overall strength and leading to more flat tires.

The Car People’s advice: Check for splitting and large bumps in the sidewalls caused by air getting between the layers of rubber. Many times the damage is on the inner sidewall, and not evident at first glance.

Engine air filter:

Your vehicle’s air filter cleans the air as it passes through the engine area. Throughout the winter, it can pick up and become clogged by moisture, dirt and sludge.

The Car People’s advice: have your air filter looked at in the early spring to determine whether it needs replacing or not.

Wheel Alignment:

Potholes, hitting or scraping curbs and even driving over bumpy railway tracks or bigger speed bumps can make your vehicle’s alignment shift. Remember: just because you don’t notice it pulling doesn’t mean your alignment isn’t out of whack. Your car or truck can be out of alignment and not pull, but uneven tire wear can still occur and reduce the handling.

The Car People’s advice: Have your alignment looked at by a professional in the early spring.

Auto Repair Nashville for Winter Car Problems

Nashville Car Repair for when your car won't start

Heat is extremely damaging to a vehicle, but typically the symptoms of this wear and tear are not exposed until the cold weather hits. Nashville does not typically have extremely harsh winters, but even the cold here is enough to cause what we call “no start problems.” “No start problems” are exactly what they sounds like, and they are undoubtedly a major inconvenience. Your car not starting will prevent you from driving your kids to school, getting to work and doing your errands or making it to that party you have been anticipating. We all know how stressful this can be, and we are here to make sure you are prepared in a situation like this. You may still have to bring your car in for auto repair in downtown Nashville, but you will know what to do in the moment and what to expect for your vehicle.

The three main parts of a car affected by extreme shifts in temperature are:

(1) The Alternator:

The alternator is what charges the battery. A healthy alternator will keep you battery charged, so that your starter can fire and your electronic components can function.

(2) The Battery:

The battery is the temporary power source for the electronic components of the vehicle like the radio, AC, heat, etc as well as for fueling the starter to ignite the engine.

(3) The Starter:

The starter is what engages and initiates the operation of the vehicle.

So, what can you expect to experience if you have a problem with one of these components?

Questions to ask yourself/Symptoms to look for:

(1) When you turn the key, does the vehicle make any sound?

(2) If it makes a sound, is it a whining or a clicking sound?

(3) Is you car making no sound when the key is turned?

Each of these questions will lead to information that help diagnose your vehicle before you take your car to get serviced in Nashville, TN.

If your vehicle is not turning over and makes a “Click Click Click” sound, chances are it is a battery problem, and the starter cannot engage to initiate operation of the vehicle.

If your vehicle makes no sounds when you turn the key, chances are, your starter is bad and may need to be replaced.

Different Types of Battery Related Issues:

Because the car is an operating system, the battery issues that you may experience could possibly be caused by a more complex problem. Vehicle maintenance is a great way to find issues before they impact your everyday life, but stuff happens on and off the road that can lead to unexpected issues. Here are a couple of scenarios that could cause you to service your battery:

(1) Battery Cells are Bad

The cells in the battery are what enable it to hold a charge. If the cells of the battery are bad, the battery will no longer to be able to hold a charge or be charged, and it will need to be replaced.

(2) Electronic Drain

Because the battery has two jobs, to fuel the electronics and to fuel the starter, if the battery has been used solely for running lights, radio and heat/AC without the engine being on to recharge the battery, there is a chance the battery has been drained and is now unable to ignite the starter. A simple charging of the battery can remedy this situation. The Car People in Nashville can provide you with this great auto service that will have you on your way with a freshly charged battery.

(3) Bad Alternator

If your alternator is bad, it will most definitely affect your vehicle's ability to provide charge through the battery. New alternators vary in cost depending on the type of vehicle you own. Bring your car in to The Car People and they will help determine the cost of a new alternator in Nashville.
