Terry's Service Center
847 Hillwood Boulevard, Nashville, TN 37209
At Terry’s Service Center, we are passionate about the auto repair services we provide, but we are also very passionate about saving the lives of innocent animals. That’s why we volunteer with the Pilots ‘N Paws organization. This is a national charity that works with rescue groups across the country to facilitate the transportation of rescue, shelter and foster animals to their forever homes. The great volunteers in Pilots ‘N Paws dedicate their time, energy and planes to transport animals to where they will be adopted. Terry has his pilot’s license and a plane, and on the weekends flies dogs and other animals all over the country so they can find loving families of their own. Marge also transports animals in her car, driving them to safety. Many people don’t realize that shelters across the country put down animals each day due to overcrowding. The volunteers in Pilots ‘n Paws give these animals a second chance by transporting them to less crowded areas where they can find their forever home. It’s the goal of Pilots ‘N Paws to make transportation available to all rescue animals so they can live happily ever after.

At Terry’s Service Center we believe that business should be about more than just making money—it should be about giving back to the community and making the place you live better for everyone. That’s why Terry flies for Pilots N Paws , a charitable organization that connects pilots with animals in need of being rescued. Terry is a seasoned pilot and loves being able to use his skills for good.
Transporting rescue animals via air ends up being cheaper and more efficient than ground transportation and means the animals get to a safe, loving home even faster. Nashville's Winter Effects On Your Automobile
Winter can cause a lot of damage and complications to your car or truck. Here’s a list of 5 things to look out for while the weather is still cold.
1. Your Battery Can Die/Fail in Colder Weather
Have your battery tested ASAP. This will prevent going out to your car and finding a dead battery on a cold morning leaving you stranded before work. Keeping your vehicles in a garage is one certain way to ensure they will start in subzero conditions, however, not everyone has access to a garage so important to check the health of your vehicle's battery before/during/after the cold months.
A typical car battery lasts an average of 3 years and usually can handle the cold to a point. Extreme cold pulls voltage from a battery, making it increasingly harder for your car to start. A typical battery is most comfortable between 30 and 90 F, so anything below that lower end will give you trouble. Here in Nashville, we’ve seen temperatures go below that recently making in more and more important to have your battery checked out.
2. Fluids Thicken During Dropping Temperatures
Check all your fluids including oil, antifreeze, power steering, brake and transmission fluids.
When it gets cold, fluids thicken and that will make it harder for your car to get the fluids it need to run properly. Transmission fluid being the most important. That fluid in particular needs to flow quickly, and your car won't function as well if it’s flowing at a slow pace.
3. Your Wipers and Washer Solvent Will Fail
Make sure to clean the windshield of your car before turning on your wipers. A lot of wiper problems come from windshields bening dirty and not being cleared first and then being turned on. Terry’s Service Center, Inc often sees customers with wiper-related issues during and after a long and cold winter.
Blades get worn out and wiper transmissions break because extreme weather can overpower the freezing point of the washer fluid. Afterall, they are just rubber and pressure from snow, ice and slush are too much for them handle after a certain point.
4. Cold Air Will Take a Toll on Your Tire Pressure
Most tires lose 1 pound per square inch (psi) for every 10 F of temperature drop and checking the inflation as the air gets colder is critical. For example, a fully inflated tire at 70 F is five psi under-inflated at 20 F. Under-inflated tires do not perform well and are subject to damage or failure especially in snow and icy conditions.
5. Spark Plug Reliability Weakens During Winter
An old or bad spark plug, ignition component or clogged filter may cause your vehicle not to start. As temperatures get colder, you'll have a hard start so a bad plug or wires can affect reliability.
It’s been a long cold winter here in Nashville and your car or truck has been affected by the weather in one way or the other and it’s important to have it looked at by a professional. Come out to Terry’s Service Center, West Nashville’s premier auto repair shop!

The affects of temperature change on your vehicle
Many things are affected by drastic changes in temperature, and your vehicle is no exception. Your vehicle, like your body or any other network of systems, requires that each component be functioning properly. If one system is broken or not functioning efficiently or at the right pace, it is very likely that it will impact and damage other systems in the network. This is very true for your vehicle, which is why it is so important to be aware of which of your vehicle’s systems are more likely to be impacted by change in temperature.
The top two components of your vehicle that are most likely to be affected by a change in temperate, like we in Nashville experience in winter, are the following:
1) Cooling System
The cooling system of a vehicle is the system that cools and warms the engine to make sure it stays at an optimal temperature for functioning. It helps the vehicle warm up quickly in cold weather and also keeps it from over heating as it runs.
Signs that your cooling system may have issues include:
− Leaks that leave a puddle of coolant under your car
− Temperature gauge indications, including if it is higher than the norm
− Smoking from the hood
− Check engine light illuminated
Although some of these signs of cooling system problems with your vehicle may not seem particularly serious, results of this can be quite severe. If your engine is smoking from under the hood, you need to stop the vehicle and pull over immediately. You will then need to let the vehicle cool down and visit a local Nashville auto repair shop to help diagnose and treat the problem with you car. Some of the less urgent symptoms can still prevent you from passing an emission test and cause further damage to your car over time, so it is always best to seek auto repair advice in the Nashville area with urgency.
The Battery of your car is very important. Without a working battery, your vehicle cannot start which means you cannot use your car. Battery issues can be caused by a number of issues, including, but not limited to:
− Interior lights left on
− Electrical Shortage
− Bad Alternator
− Starter issues
− Loose Belts
− Drastic change in Temperature
How to determine if you battery is bad?
− Sluggish starter
This is something you may not be able to hear unless you know your car very well. If you listen to the starter on your vehicle regularly, you will be able to tell if it is more sluggish than normal, which can help avoid battery issues hindering your daily activities.
− Your car will not start
This is a classic example of how to determine if your battery is bad. Typically, if your car does not start, there is some issue relating back to the battery. Sometimes it can be a larger problem with the alternator, but our Nashville vehicle maintenance and repair services can help determine and diagnose the root problem.
Another factor to consider is the quality of your battery will affect the overall life of your battery. A typical high quality battery life is from 2-5 years, with lower quality batteries lasting closer to 2 years. Quality is dependent on the number of lead plates and the quality of materials used in the construction of the battery. With more inexpensive batteries, your vehicle's alternator and starter can be negatively affected, since everything is connected.
Your vehicle, like a human body, does better when “healed” from the root of the problem instead of placing a band-aid on the symptom. Because of this, a battery problem is not always only a battery problem, and can lead to larger issues that could be causing extended damage to the vehicle. At Terry Service Center in Nashville, we offer free comprehensive examinations for every vehicle that we work on to make sure and identify the root issue. As an auto service company in Nashville, it is important to us that we prioritize the issues with you vehicle to help you budget and fix the most urgent issues first.
Terry’s Service Center has been a family owned and operated one-stop auto repair shop in Nashville, TN since 1990. Run by Terry and Marge Janiak, for more than 20 years we’ve been providing top quality automotive services to our wonderful customers in Nashville, West Nashville, Belle Meade, West Meade, Charlotte Park and Bellevue. We are passionate about car repair and enjoy building lasting relationships with our wonderful customers throughout the community. We love what we do, and we love to help others!
Terry Janiak began his love of cars when he was just a kid. Working on cars ran in his family, and he could always be found in the garage with this father or grandfather. He got his first car at age 12, a 1955 Volkswagen Beetle, and his automotive career took off.
Terry began his first “official” automotive training when he was in high school in Calumet City, IL. Each year, Plymouth would sponsor “The Plymouth Troubleshooting Contest” for high school students in the automotive vocational courses. Teams of two students each were given an automobile that had “problems,” and they had to “de-bug” and repair the car within the allotted time. Terry and his partner won first place in the state contest and placed 7th in the national competition!
After graduating from high school, Terry worked as a mechanic at various auto repair shops in the area until a family member talked him into starting his own. “E & T Motors,” was born, and it was a combination auto repair shop, body shop, and used car lot.
It was during this time that Terry met Marge at a party that was held by mutual friends. Marge thought Terry was sort of goofy, but eventually they started dating and the rest is history! A year and a half later, Terry and his business partner sold “E & T Motors,” and in October of 1984, Terry, Marge and their daughter, Jaclyn, moved to Nashville, TN.
Terry started working at some of the auto repair shops in the West Nashville/Belle Meade area, and his reputation as a fine mechanic grew. In April of 1990, he opened Terry’s Service Center in the garage behind the Texaco on Harding Road in West Meade. Marge agreed to run the office and do the bookkeeping, while Terry repaired each car that came in. Their business continued to grow until the day they realized that they needed a larger shop. One of their customers was a real estate agent, and he helped them find the property where Terry’s Service Center is located now.
