Nashville's Guide to The Difference in Soft Washing and Traditional Power Washing
Home owners, hear us out! Owning a home comes with all kinds of maintenance requirements. The inside of your home and living space takes a lot of time to maintain and you can easily forget how great your deck, roof and home would look on the outside with a little maintenance. Power washing is something that almost everyone has heard of. You may have heard horror stories of homes being power washed and as a bi product, the paint was left chipped and caused the owners to have to re-paint. Also, your roof may look dirty, but the “dirty” appearance can actually be caused by mold that can lead to health problems. These items need a solution and soft washing is just that! Check out the differences between Soft Washing and traditional power washing:
Traditional Power Washing:
-Uses high pressure
-Cause etching in wood
-Can streak pavement or driveways
-Can chip paint
-Typically performed with a machine rented or purchased from a home hardware store
-This services is sometimes tacked on to lawn care, where the provider is not educated with the equipment
-Uses soaps and surfactants rather than pressure
-Pressure is low enough to place your hand in the stream
-The results last longer
-Kills mold on the roof
-Lengthens the life span of your paint and roof
If you think you need to repaint your home or clean your roof, you may just need some soft washing! Increase the life of your roof and paint as well as keep your family safe from invasive molds. Do not damage your lovely home with traditional power washing when there is an alternative.

Replace or Remove Metal Window Screens
Oxidation can occur and damage your glass investment. If you already have oxidized glass it will appear hazy and have a white etched look similar to the image on the opposite page. What is the cause? When metal around exterior windows has been exposed to rain or humid conditions, the metal slowly deteriorates and becomes oxidized. This is most commonly seen on windows with metal frames or metal screens. This condition penetrates exterior glass surfaces and renders regular window cleaning techniques ineffective. In most cases this glass can be restored. Prevention however is the best solution. So if you have exterior metal screens, replace them with new screens made of fiberglass. You can also simply remove the screen permanently; it will improve your view!
Just Say “No” to Abrasive Nylon Pads
Abrasive nylon scrub pads, like the ones found on the back of many household dish washing sponges, will scratch window glass. The fact is, window glass is much softer than glass manufactured for beverage containers. Specialized nylon, fine grade steel wool, and glass scrapers are the professional window cleaner’s choice to safely remove stickers, decals and other hard to remove debris from window glass. So, if you’re thinking about using a sponge to clean your window... ...just say “No” to abrasive nylon pads
The Importance of Routine Window Cleaning
Window glass can become permanently stained from hard water deposits caused by rainwater and new paint. The following factors can also cause permanent damage to glass: - Acid Rain - Airborne Pollutants - Calcium Salts - Rust - Over Spray - Salt Water Spray - Oxidation Window glass is porous. The peaks and valleys along the surface can easily trap airborne debris that will diminish glass integrity. To protect your glass investment experts recommend NO LESS THAN 2 WINDOW CLEANINGS PER YEAR. Clean glass also helps the “R Value” of thermal paned windows. The R Value is the measure of resistance to heat gain or loss. Regardless of the glass type, a clean window allows the glass to better regulate the effects of exterior weather, which can produce greater efficiency and REDUCE your monthly heating and cooling costs.
Why Not Clean Your Windows With a Garden Hose?
Although this technique can remove some dirt and grime from exterior windows......it can cause more damage to your glass than good. Why? Because just as with the sprinkler systems, you are allowing tap water to dry and remain on your glass. Remember that tap water contains minerals that over time will degrade the transparent look of your glass. Tap water use is only okay when used in conjunction with professional window cleaning techniques. The tap water is mixed with high quality soap and then completely removed from the glass with either a squeegee or “pure water”. Since the harmful minerals are not left to dry on the glass there is no risk of damage or staining. If you plan on using a garden hose to clean your windows make sure to rinse the glass completely with “pure water”. You can effectively produce “pure water” by running it through a Reverse Osmosis (RO) or Deionizing Resin Filtration System (DI System). However this can be expensive. These systems also require your household water pressure to fall within a specific range to allow for the equipment to work effectively. The best solution is to hire a professional window cleaner; especially if your window cleaning needs require the use of tall ladders or other high access equipment.
