“We don’t care how you look coming in. We just want you looking good walking out.” This is one of our favorite quotes from one of our senior stylists, Courtney Krampf. The fact is, we aren’t the kind of salon where you should feel the need to do your hair to get your hair done. It is true that our stylists spend more money and time on their continued education than most in the industry and that our salon is repeatedly named one of the top 200 in the country. However, this does not mean we are “too big for our britches.” We started as a family-owned boutique salon and we strive to keep our atmosphere comfortable and friendly. Come as you are, pay a fair price, and leave with your expectations exceeded in every way. We want to give you the luxury service you desire without the luxury price tag. Our staff are highly trained professionals, but they still like to have fun. We feel certain that if you give us a chance, you will find our salon to have the most comfortable, enjoyable atmosphere of any salon you have ever visited.

High Quality Hair Extensions in Nashville

Add Some Oomph to Your Hair at Salon Ya Ya

To spice up those holiday photos this season, you can add fullness and volume to your hair by applying beautiful hair extensions. If you have been pondering the idea of getting extensions, then come on in to Salon Ya Ya for your free, no obligation, quote and consultation.

Only certain certified stylists can apply our Dreamcatchers extensions. These unique applications use a micro cylinder to link the hair to yours. Unlike others that glue, tape, and sew onto hair, these clamp in with ease. This special feature will not cause any damage to your hair, even when you decide to take them out. Dreamcatchers uses European, good quality hair that can be purchased wavy or straight, from 20-24 inches long. Once they arrive at the salon, your hair extensions are colored to your desired look.

At Salon Ya Ya, we will also cut and color your hair before application, so that everything is maintained at once. Once we apply the extensions, we can cut to your desired length and style. Then after about 4 to 6 weeks, you will come back in for maintenance of the extensions. Prices vary, which is why we provide a free consultation to discuss all of these details with you.

The extensions themselves will last up to a year before they are sent back to Dreamcatchers to be re-tipped, after which they can be returned to you for another year's worth of use. Ultimately, these resourceful extensions will last up to two years!

Not only are holiday events around the corner, but our holiday deals are as well! Starting November 1st, we will have our infamous Pureology and Redken Kits available at a discounted price. These are great as gifts, or for you personally to stock up on your beauty supply essentials.

Salon Ya Ya is here for any of your hair questions or concerns. Call or visit us for your free consultation or to learn more about any of our services. We can be reached at one of our locations below:

How to Achieve Instant Conditioning for Color-Treated Hair

Come to Salon Ya Ya for Hair Products That Will Maintain Healthy Hair

When it comes to coloring your hair, there are a smorgasbord of different products you can use for shampooing and conditioning. It comes as no surprise that here at Salon Ya Ya , we have all those bottles of secret concoctions to help you maintain that beautiful color you just got on your hair.

We are happy to welcome yet another great product from Pureology, one that should definitely be part of your pampering rituals. Pureology Colour Fanatic Instant Deep-Conditioning Mask is for normal to thick color-treated hair. This 100% Vegan formula has 21 benefits that help restore, protect, and perfect your hair. After shampooing, use instead of your normal conditioner and let it sit for 1-3 minutes. Just one bottle will last for several months because this product is only to be used once every few days. Pureology Colour Fanatic Instant Deep-Conditioning Mask works as a boost to your normal conditioning and does a great job of protecting your color treated hair.

Why is it important to use high-quality products to condition your color-treated hair?

Well, we all find it crucial to maintain the color we just spent money and time on, and if we use risky products, we can actually zap the color right out of our hair! It is good to use conditioners to enforce moisture back into your beautiful head of hair.

Here's a great tip: Honestly, try not to wash too often, every couple days is enough. Also, avoid using hot water due to the risk of the water and shampoo washing away the color. The reason is because the hot water opens the cuticle of the hair and causes color to fade faster. Cooler water helps the layers of the cuticle lay down which prevents color fadage and adds shine. Dry shampoo is a great alternative which helps lock in that new color!

How to Maintain Healthy Hair

3 Easy Tips from the Professionals at Salon Ya Ya

Some of us are religious with our hair appointments and others, not so much. If you have ever caught yourself jealously staring at someone’s hair, then read on! With a few simple tips, you, too, can have hair like that. Get to your local hair salon now, and maybe you will be the one making others envious. It is easy to have healthy hair as long as you do just a little bit on your part.

Here is an easy and simple little list to achieve that healthy head of hair:

- Cut It

Hair should be trimmed every 12 weeks, in order to prevent damage. Over time, you will notice those ugly split ends doing a number on your hair when not treated with a fresh cut. Book your appointment now for a trim or fresh new look.

- Product Control

You must apply heat protective products to your beautiful mane before exposing it to heat from dryers, curling irons, or hair straightening tools. There have been cases of people actually losing their hair from too much heat damage. Do not let it get to that level and invest in the quality of your hair by using high-grade products. Ask your personal stylist which product is best for your hair, because everyone's hair is different.

- Color Quality

It is very important for the health of your hair that you visit a professional salon for color treatment. Trained stylists know the correct and specific formulations when mixing color. Plus, products are purchased by a beauty supplier that only caters to professionals, so you know you are getting the best there is. Things can go terribly wrong if you go to a stylist that is uneducated. For example, you should never place permanent color over permanent color, and same goes for lightener over lightener, because it will start to ruin your hair.

Tip: You do not have to shampoo your hair daily unless you have an extreme workout regimen or really oily skin. When you skip a day from washing, your natural oils can condition your hair and help maintain its overall health!

Follow these 3 trouble-free steps to maintain the health of your hair. If you are in a situation where you already have distressed hair, come into Salon Ya Ya and purchase Redken's Extreme products to build back the proteins your hair has lost.

Book an appointment with one of our friendly salon professionals to get you back on track. A fresh cut will serve you well! Call us at one of our locations below:

Why Buy Hair Products at a Salon

Beware of Fake Hair Products

Do not let the temptation of convenience cloud your judgment when purchasing hair products. Grabbing that shampoo staring you in the face at the grocery store can be detrimental for your hair, even if you are in a hurry. For your hair's protection, you should buy your hair products at a professional beauty salon.

There are so many reasons why:

- You may be purchasing a totally different product when buying professional products at grocery stores! Turn over the bottle, and you will read a disclaimer stating that only salons can sell their product and be guaranteed. Otherwise, the company cannot promise you are getting a fresh new bottle, and it may be what they call diverted. You may even be purchasing a cheap product that has been poured into the bottle. Scam artists have been known to track down salon bottles and use them to pour a less expensive brand inside them and sell them to another store. You never can be sure what you are getting at a drug store. It may even be contaminated or diluted with an unknown substance. Be careful and buy from your salon. Luckily, some companies, like Redken , have set aside a budget for buying these tainted products from the drug store to protect you, the consumer, and their company's reputation.

- It may be old in the store. Salons carry new products, and you know the quality will be good. Products last around 3 years before expiring, so this is important to make sure you are getting a new bottle of shampoo and conditioner.

- Buying products from Salon Ya Ya helps aid in further education for our salon professionals. Certain companies like Redken will provide training courses if their product is sold in the salon. You are paying pretty much the same price, so why not buy at the salon? Support your local hair stylist and buy from them.

- When purchasing at a salon, you are guided by your personal hair stylist to let you know what product is best for your hair type. For example, a person whose hair is frizzy needs something that tames the frizz and not induce the issue even more.

- The quality of salon products is better due to how concentrated the ingredients are and the quality of ingredients, allowing you to use less product for more results. Your hair is guaranteed to be protected, and your color will last longer and not fade like it would with a cheap product. It is kind of like buying a new car and not getting the oil changed.

Watch out for these diverted products in drug stores and be sure to buy at your local salon. At Salon Ya Ya, we provide you with expert advice along with the expert products.

Going Darker and Shinier for the Fall!

Warm Up in a Salon Chair this Fall with Salon Ya Ya

At Salon Ya Ya, we pride ourselves in the ability to make your hair glow with beauty. This fall, come on by and pair up with one of our talented hair specialists to get the look you want for a fresh new season.Treat yourself to a new hair color or go a little bit darker. But most importantly, have a good and relaxing time while doing it!

Some ideas for your hair this Fall:

- Darken up the summer blonde by using warmer blondes and adding a few low lights.

- Go dark all over—get that shine back with a glaze or gloss.

- Use a toner on blonde hair to darken it just a tad—a slight change can sometimes be the best option for you, so go a couple shades darker for the upcoming cold weather.

- Add metallic color and tone—bring some life back into your hair by enhancing it with some metallic pieces.

Keep in mind that just because it is fall does not mean you have to go super dark. One to two shades will help you achieve a new look, so get the toner out and welcome a warmer look!

You may have that bright bold blonde from the summer, but adding some darker-toned blondes can make you look and feel ready to go for the fall.

The fashion trend will be muted tones like moss and mauve. By making your hair look more metallic, you can achieve a nice, innovative look that will make people stop and ask you where you got your hair done!

NEW PRODUCT:

Come into one of our friendly salons, and we will be happy to educate you on our newest product called Metal Fix. We are ecstatic about this styling aid that will leave your hair with some spice. Just add the gel anywhere you desire on your hair, dry, and you will be left with a fun, glittery sheen. You can choose between gold or silver, and you can break the rule here when it comes to skin tone! Warmer and cooler colors do not matter in this case, so get wild with it!

Give Your Hair a New Fall Look with Bangs!

Achieve a Fresh Hair Style with One Simple Change

Even though the weather is still quite warm, many of us are beginning to dream about boots and pumpkin spice latte. The beginning of a new season sparks the desire for change and start anew. When it comes to your hair, you may be quite happy with the color and cut, but still wish for a small change. We have the answer for you...BANGS!

A slight change, like bangs, can give you a fresh new look for this fall. This is the time of year to have bangs since the weather will start to cool off. In the summer, bangs will get sweaty and oily, causing skin breakouts and can look unappealing.

Feel fresh! Feel renewed! Break out your favorite pair of boots and grab yourself a chair here at Salon Ya Ya to achieve your new look this fall!

Here are some things to keep in mind when getting bangs:

- Face shape—If you have an oblong face, you will want to go with a full fringe to feel more oval versus long. With a wide face, try side swept bangs instead of straight across because full bangs would make your face look even wider.

- Maintenance—You will have to trim your bangs in order for them to look their best. We recommend trimming your bangs every 2 to 4 weeks, and we even give you a complimentary bang trim if you are a current client!

- Hairstyle—Bangs are great because they go with most hairstyles. Watch out if you have naturally curly hair, though, because it may take you longer to style and get them straight.

- Time styling—At bare minimum, you should at least wet your bangs in the morning and blow dry. Otherwise, they can look too messy. Five minutes is all you need for styling. If you want a spiky look, use a paste or wax product to pull off that style. Spending a few minutes getting them just right can make a huge difference in your hair-do for the day!

Salon Ya Ya would love to hook you up with one of our professional stylists to give you the look and feel you desire this fall. Choose from one of our 3 locations: GREEN HILLS at 615-712-8758, HILLSBORO VILLAGE at 615-460-0051, or Brentwood at 615-739-6006.

Taking Care of Color Treated Hair During Summer

Salon Ya Ya Offers Professional Tips on Protecting Your Hair from the Sun's Harsh Heat

Do you want that extra shine on your hair this summer, but find it hard to maintain? Salon Ya Ya has some great solutions for you. Come by for a visit, and we will treat your hair with our nourishing products to sooth split ends and end frizz. Stop fighting the uncontrollable dryness and treat your hair with one of our amazing products! Read on to learn how to care for your hair this summer.

Ways to Protect your Hair:

- Wear a Hat — Simple yet effective, if you really want to guard your hair this summer from the damaging rays of the sun, dig out your sun hat from the back of the closet, and your hair will be completely sheltered. Easy peasy!

- Use Pureology UVA and UVB Protective Products — When you plan on being out in the summer heat for a longer duration, then these are a must. These necessary products will coat your hair with essential ingredients for your utmost protection against free radicals and environmental factors. Also, make sure you are washing your hair with a color protecting formula. We cannot stress this enough! Why spend all the time and resources coloring your hair if you are not going to maintain it?

- Spray on Redken's Hairspray — If you seem to be fighting the frizz this summer due to Tennessee's constant humidity, indulge and try Redken hairspray. We have 3 different strengths depending on your hair type, and you will love its quality and hold. Not only does it lock in your color, but it protects your hair as well.

- Cleanse with Redken's Hair Cleansing Cream — Laying out by the pool and going for a dip is great and all, but what is that chlorine really doing to your hair? Well, the chemical is building up on your locks; therefore, treat it with a cleansing cream shampoo to get to the root of the problem. Salt-treated pools cause even more dryness, so make sure and condition accordingly.

- Treat Hair with Demi-Permanent Hair Color — After harsh sun exposure, like going to the beach, your hair will be stripped of its shine, so make sure and follow up with a demi-permanent glaze to tone your hair. This will bring back that shine and combat dullness.

Salon Ya Ya is the place to go if you wish to stock up on sun protective hair products. Do not forget to book your appointment for pampering with one of our professional stylists! Choose from one of our 3 locations: GREEN HILLS at 615-712-8758, HILLSBORO VILLAGE at 615-460-0051, or Brentwood at 615-739-6006.

Try A New Hair Style and Color This Spring

FRINGE

With many options like straight across, side swept, blunt, whispy, long & short, there's always a fringe that will work best for you. Keep in mind that with a great fringe comes great responsibilty. They need to be trained to lie smoothly and for some hair types this is not an easy task. Also keep your face shape in mind while choosing a new fringe to make sure your style looks top notch.

LENGTH

To find your best length, consider your hair type & how much maintenence you're willing to put into a style. Long hair is great for the Spring & Summer to rock a beachy wave, fun braids, top knots & teased pony tails while short hair is sweet for a cool, refreshing style with lots of exciting product options.

COLOR

When choosing a new color it's important to consider skin tone, eye color, and level of maintence when deciding on a new color style. For easy maitence & an on trend style, try balayage highlights or a semi-permanant color gloss! For a more dramatic change, try going all over lighter or darker with customly placed brightness & softness for highlights & contour. With all the different options of color & with everybody's unique look, the best option for choosing the tone of the color is talking to your stylist about what will work best for you.

Choosing a new style can be overwhelming, but don't forget to have fun with it! You may find your new favorite look by switching things up! When changing styles, always remember to consult with your stylist to find your best options & right products for your new look.

Top Ten Tips for Thick Hair

Salon YaYa Fluffs Up Your Hair

Those of you out there with tons of fabulous, thick hair know how lucky you are tohave it; you also know how challenging it can be to manage on a day to day basis. Growing up with thick hair I definitely had my struggles, and it is actually one of the reasons I became a stylist. I have put together a list of the most important things I know about how to give yourself a break and really enjoy those luxurious locks!!

1. Find a stylist who understands thick hair - Coming from a hairdresser I'm sure this seems like shameless self-promotion, but it really is important to find someone who understands what you canand cannot do with thick hair. My philosophy is that people with all hair types can enjoy short, medium, and long styles, but creating those for a guest with thick hair requires a specific set of skillsand expertise. When you do find that person, hold on to them; the longer a stylist works with you,the more they learn about you and your hair, and what will work best for you.

2. Pick a style that suits you - Often enough people with thick hair end up feeling like they can only wear their hair long because the added length helps weigh the hair down, but this just isn't true! Do yourself a favor and schedule a consultation with your stylist about what other possibilities thereare for you. True, you may not be able to rock a baby pixie a la Michelle Williams or Emma Watson, but there are plenty of other ideas for you to explore. Even if you have to try a few looks outbefore you figure out your favorite, it beats being stuck with something you don't love by default.

3. Practice makes perfect - Once you've decided which style/s are right for you, make sure you take some time to figure out what your new routine is going to look like, and how to use the new products or tools you might need to recreate the look at home. I always tell my guests to set aside some time at night or on the weekend to figure out how to style your new look on your own. That way if you run into a snag, or it takes longer than you thought it would, you are not running late, frustrated, or both. If you are having difficulty with something, give your stylist a call, she should be happy to walk you through the steps, or even have you stop by the salon and go over everything with you.

4. Make friends with products - When your stylist recommends what you need for treating, styling, and protecting your hair, trust her! It's the same as receiving a prescription from your doctor, and you have the added benefit of seeing exactly how much of each product to use, when to use it, and what it actually does. Again, I am sorry if this seems gratuitous, but there is no contest between professional and drugstore brand products. When you use professional products you have the benefit of higher quality ingredients that are much higher in concentration. Translation, they work better and you won't have to use as much to get the desired result, which means they last longer.

5. Less is more - When it comes to shampooing and frequency of styling, do yourself a favor, and stretch it out as long as possible. Let's say you wash your hair on Monday. First, I recommend you do it at night so you have plenty of time to dry it if you are going for a smoother look; if you want more texture, you can just blow dry the roots and let it dry overnight. Tuesday morning you do a little touch-up with your flat-iron or curling iron for polish, add your finishing products, and you're done in 7-10 minutes. Wednesday morning, same idea, use a little dry shampoo at the root if you are feeling flat, then touch up with your hot tools and finishers. As of right now, I wash my hair every 4-5 days, depending on what's going on with my schedule; if this seems extreme to you, try for every 2-3 days to start. This will also reduce the amount of time you're spending on that first day washing and styling, it really can take forever, and allow you to have more days with the "next-day" hair that most of us prefer.

6. Act like a Pro - Using professional grade blow dryers, curling irons, and flat irons will change your life. Not only can it cut your styling time in half, but you will save your hair a world of damage as well. For example, when you use a lower quality flat iron on the highest heat, and it takes you 5-7 passes over a section to actually smooth the hair, you are imposing quite a lot of heat and mechanical stress on that hair. Over time that stress will lead to over-drying and breakage, both of which cause hair to be frizzy and unmanageable, two things people with thick hair struggle with already. This creates an unfortunate cycle of frustration with styling, and usually leads to people just giving up on their hair; nobody wants that.

7. Liven it up - If you feel like you've found the right cut and want to stick with it for a while for manageability, look to different colors to keep yourself interested. A gloss or glaze is the perfect choice if you want to try out different colors without a high level commitment; added bonus, they have shine, moisture, and smoothing ingredients built-in. If you are feeling more adventurous, the good news is that your thick hair is probably quite strong and can handle dramatic color changes more than some other hair types; if there is something you've always wanted to try, there's no time like the present!!

8. Experiment - Braids, buns, ponytails, twists, headscarves, bobby pins, and cloth elastics are all your best friends. Play around with these different styles on your own, or bring your favorite accessories to your next appointment and have your stylist show you what to do. The bottom line is that thicker hair will fill out these styles more easily, and a little effort goes a long way in the versatility department.

9. Treat Yourself - There are different options available to help tame unruly tresses with varying degrees of permanence. Depending on whether you want to wear your hair smooth or with more texture, your stylist can explain how treatments can improve ease of styling, reduce styling time, tame frizz, and help lock in a style over several days. Try a few out, and you might just stumble upon something that could change the game completely.

10. Learn to love your thick hair - Cheesy, yes, but I firmly believe that your hair is the most important accessory, because, well, you wear it every single day! If you feel like it's just another chore, take the time to talk to your stylist about how you might be able to enjoy your hair more and have some fun with it. A few little tweaks will refresh your approach, and update your skills, so you can really enjoy yourself when it comes to hair.

Nashville Salon Reveals Hair Color For Spring 2015

Courtney’s Color Corner

This spring, everyone is going blonde!!! If you're already keen on highlighting services, ask your stylist to branch out and try Balayage. Balayage literally means "to sweep" or "to paint". It provides a more natural, organic look, and can be customized to provide lightness all over, or simply around your face as if you've spent some time at the beach. Have you been rocking an Ombre? That trend is still as hot as ever, but if you're looking for a change, Balayage can also help you transition to something new and different by bringing light pieces higher, yet not quite to the scalp.

Redken has just released an entire line of Blonde Idol colors and shades, so several different blonding services can be achieved in an efficient amount of time at the salon. For the first time ever, Redken now has a base breaker, so if you're looking to lighten your natural color just one level in-between highlight services, or you're looking to take the dark "edge" off around your hairline, this service is perfect for you. Consult with your Yaya Stylist and see if these blonding techniques are right for you!

Is blonde not your thing? Monochromatic, shiny color is also hot right now. Love the dark, solid, and cool shades you've seen on celebrities like Zooey Deschanel, Mila Kunis, and Katy Perry? Or what about rich, strong auburns such as Amy Adams? If these colors appeal to you, ask your stylist about Redken's brand new color line, Chromatics Ultra Rich. Your hair will be two times stronger AFTER the color service with this new, monochromatic, ammonia-free color. Bold IS beautiful!! Make a statement this spring.

Why The Cosmetology Industry Is a Great Career Choice

Some folks have a misconception about cosmetology—that it’s a hobby, or a thing people go into when they can’t go to college or do anything else with their life. But in reality, cosmetology can be a career choice in its own right, and a very happy, lucrative and fulfilling one at that. At Salon Ya-Ya, our average cosmetologists make fifty to sixty thousand dollars a year! That’s quite the hobby. And many of them have college degrees in things other than cosmetology—they do this because it’s a passion. So take a look at a few of the things that make working in the cosmetology industry so rewarding.

1. There’s no income ceiling. It’s not like an office management job where you have a salary, and that is how much you make regardless of how much you work. As a hair stylist you can make as much as you work, and more and more every year with more experience and education. Which brings us to:

2. Continuing education! At Salon Ya-Ya, our stylists work on a performance based level system, and when they jump levels, we pay for them to attend a new class at the Redken Exchange in New York. Many salons work to ensure that their stylists are continually learning and gaining more knowledge and experience as they grow.

3. Opportunity for management. Like other jobs, there are opportunities for advancement, management, and oftentimes ownership in the cosmetology industry. You can go as high as you want up the ladder!

4. Creativity as your job. Not everybody gets to be creative and make people happy as their job. It’s extremely rewarding to create something beautiful and allow a person to walk away from your chair feeling and looking great.

5. Schedule flexibility. Cosmetology is not a standard nine to five job as it allows for a great deal of flexibility, not only in the day to day but on weekends too. At Salon Ya-Ya, our stylists average 30-32 hours a week with a three-day weekend every other week! We value family and a healthy work-life balance, because we know that makes for happier and more creative stylists.

So the next time someone implies that a job in cosmetology is something you only take if you can’t get anything else, remember that it can be one of the most fulfilling and interesting career choices you can make! And if it sounds like something that might make you happy, remember: it’s never too late to do something that you love.

Don’t forget! Salon Ya-Ya just opened up our third location in Brentwood at Seven Springs, right by Corner Pub and many other fabulous retail locations. Come see us today!

Top Color Pick for Nashville in 2015

Pantone's Marsala has been chosen!

Marsala... when you think of this word, what comes to mind? Perhaps your mind is filled with fragrant whiffs of a delectable indian culinary experience, or perhaps your brain bee lines for the fresh rich color of a pomegranate. Regardless of how to see it, marsala is an amazing and amazingly potent color, and it is ours for 2015! As a salon in Nashville, color and style is important, and drives decisions for the trends we are following and translating into fabulous hair styles and tones. Marsala has big plans for us! From lipstick to textiles and blush to fingernails, our world will be coated in this deep blend of feminine and masculinity, all through color and we will help you choose the hair style and color that will blend and pair nicely with it!

Color may seem so surface and such a simple fashion trend, but there is deeper meaning to color. Color therapy has been around for years, and has been known to be a beneficial method for treating illnesses. Many aspects of life are linked to color, like signals and stop lights, our chakra system, nature around us and of course fashion and style! Choice of color is a freedom that we all have and it allows us to express ourselves in ways that are perhaps more subconscious than anything. We connect with people because of the colors they wear and the way they make us feel.

Judging from the color Marsala for 2015, this year is bound to be rich with deeper connections to those around us. As a society, we are waking up and connecting in way we have never before. This color is a direct representation of that. It is bold and smart, powerful and also warm.

Fashion trends in Nashville for this year are getting us all excited, but starting with your own body, skin and hair is the perfect way to set the canvas for all of those beautiful textiles and color to be added on to. Come in to Salon Ya Ya today for a fresh look at your hair style and color.

Meet Marsala: Pantone's Color of The Year

In case you were wondering who/what Pantone is and why they get to pick out the color of the year. Pantone is The Global authority of professional color standards for over 50 years. They encourage color exploration and creativity along with a greater understanding of color. For 15 years Patone has been a major influence in many industries including: fashion, beauty, home/ interior design, and graphic design. So with that being said, Marsala exudes sophistication and earthiness! In beauty Marsala is universally flattering and compliments a range of smokey and neutral combinations, making it a beautiful eye shadow color that is easily worn from day or night. Since it falls in the mauve/burgundy spectrum it can be worn on eyes, lips, or cheeks. This is how I would wear Marsala. How will you?
