Hip Donelson Farmers Market
2730 Lebanon Road Nashville, Tennessee 37214
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly Food Stamps) is now accepted at the Hip Donelson Community Farmers Market!
Would you like to be involved with the market? Sign up to become a Vendor, Sponsor or Volunteer! We need volunteers! We need people all throughout the season.
To assure that our customers have the absolute best to choose from, the Market is a producer’s only market. The vendors that you find at the Market are the growers of the foods that you purchase. It is an incredible experience to know exactly where your food comes from, be able to ask questions about how that food is grown, and help support the local farmer. You will find that prices of our farm items will be at, or less than most supermarkets. All items are locally grown (within 100 miles of Nashville).
The Hip Donelson Community Farmers Market carries locally sourced seasonal produce, bakery items, hummus, meats, dairy, eggs, cheeses, honey, Ice Cream and other specialty items!
Our Grand Opening for the 2014 season is May 9th from 4 - 7 pm at our NEW LOCATION at 2730 Lebanon Road (Ace Hardware Parking Lot). This year we have more than doubled the size of our Market to more than 80 vendors! Opening day entertainment will be Aubryn and her band playing live on the Cedarstone Bank Stage! This year the Hip Donelson Farmers Market brings back Food Trucks, along with several prepared food restaurants and caterers.
In the beginning….
After a year of posts from the members of the Hip Donelson Facebook Group, the Hip Donelson Community Farmers Market (HDFM) was opened for business on August 3, 2012 to rave reviews and large crowds. Thanks to the commitment of a steering committee and volunteers, the Market had a very successful first year, even though it was only opened for three months. Wanting to assure that the Market had a ‘community feel’, we established the Market as a Friday evening destination that includes farm fresh locally grown produce, music, crafts, kids activities, bakers and much more.
Seeing how much the community enjoyed this new Market, the Board of Directors of Hip Donelson decided to make this a recurring event, with 100 % of the net income being donated to FiftyForward Donelson Station, where the Market is held.
The Market is greatly expanding this year!! Over 32 vendor booths will be available for local produce, meats, artisans and much more. HDFM is an official SNAP (formerly food stamps) retailer, opening our Market to more individuals and helping to reach one of our goals in assuring that healthy, farm fresh foods are available to everyone. Expanded advertising will assure that everyone knows about the market this year.
Focusing a great deal on education this year, HDFM will have free cooking demonstrations at each Market, promoting the ease of preparing items found at the Market that day, including samples and recipes for each item.
Entertainment will again play a big part in the Market for 2013, with expanded entertainment each week, kids activities, a new picnic area, games (including corn hole and horse shoes) there is sure to be something for everyone at the Market.
HDFM is a member of the Tennessee Association of Farmers Markets and its Market Manager, Frank Trew is a founding Board Member of the organization. The HDFM works closely with its peers at the 12 South Farmers Market (Tuesdays 3-6) and East Nashville Farmers Market (Wednesdays 3-6) to ensure consistency in marketing, vendor opportunities and operations.
Hip Donelson Community Farmers Market is wholly owned by Hip Donelson, Inc. a tax exempt organization under IRS code 501(c) 6. Contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes but contributions from businesses may be deducted as business expenses as allowed by the law.
Mission Statement: We believe that knowing your food means knowing your farmer. We champion healthy food and healthy communities by providing a place for everyone to support, enjoy and learn about fresh, locally grown food, local music, cuisine and arts.
Make the HipD Farmers Market your Friday destination for shopping, fun, food and friendly folks. It’s THE place to be and be seen starting your weekend with live entertainment and meeting friends for dinner. The market will feature food trucks as well as booths from local restaurants offering meals or snacks.
This year we have a great new location on the corner of Lebanon Road and Old Lebanon Road just west of Donelson Pike at 2730 Lebanon Road. We are within walking distance of several wonderful restaurants, banks, retailers and Ace Hardware, of course. We have lots more room, plenty of parking and are steps from the train and the bus. We’re still the only farmers market in Nashville accessible by bus and train.
Our all volunteer staff is on hand to help with information, assisting with SNAP purchase, getting you outfitted with the latest in cool Hip Donelson gear and making your Market experience fun and memorable. Come see us at the Hip Donelson information booth!
When asked what was needed in our community, Hip Donelson responded “we want a farmers market”! An enthusiastic group of volunteers met to make this dream come true and the Hip Donelson Farmers Market opened mid summer 2012. The market was an immediate success and continues to grow and improve. We are now proud members of TN Association of Farmers Markets and The Farmers Market Coalition.
Ours is a producers-only market and our vendors come from within 150 miles of Donelson so you are guaranteed locally grown and made products. The produce sold was growing in the fields earlier in the day–you have to get up pretty early in the morning to find fresher fruits and vegetables! Our value-added and artisan products are also locally produced; shopping at our market supports healthy people and a healthy, resilient community!
We’d love to see you at our market, so please join us on Fridays May 9th – October 31st, from 4-7pm.

Crooked Creek Farms - We thought you might be interested in how we farm and why we do what we do! We are old fashioned farmers. We believe in farming like it used to be. Remember the stories you used to hear about farmers from years gone by? They had crops and produce to feed their families with fresh fruits, veggies, and grains. They also had pigs and chickens and cows to provide meat, eggs, and milk. This is what we believe in! This is farming! We believe in a truly diversified farm, and this is what we have done. We believe this is better for the environment and better for us. We are both farmers and students of the world God has created around us. We notice that in the "wild", plants don't grow by themselves, nor do animals. They grow together. Different plants and different animalsexist together and they do it well! This is the model we follow. We rotate our pastures and crop lands so we don't ruin them, we graze different species of animals together because it works better that way! We don't raise animals in confinement, we use cover crops to protect our soil and we let our animals graze our crops after we're done. Nothing goes to waste and our crops and animals are healthy and nutritous. We try to work together with the natural world around us instead of againstit. Our land is valuable to us and to future generations. Our goal is to farm and farm responsibly. We can't farm and do what we love if we don't take care of this earth that we have been given! So we're old fashioned farmers. We love it and wouldn't have it any other way!

They want their customers to enjoy every bite with the confidence they are getting the best quality ingredients, made fresh in small batches to ensure consistency of flavor and heat levels.
Delvin Farms - Our family farm has been growing local produce since 1972. The 140 acre farm located in College Grove along the Harpeth River is home to two generations of family farmers. We grow a large variety of certified organic vegetables ten months out of the year. Delvin Farms began in 1972 with Hank, Sr. and Cindy Delvin and their children, Hank Jr., Eric and Amy. From 1972- 1997 the farm produce was sold through distribution centers, Shoneys and grocery stores. In 1997 Hank and Cindy began the process of turning the farm into a certified organic operation and the farm became certified organic in 1998. Our love of the land and of what we do has led us into the area of Community Supported Agriculture. We began the CSA in 1999. By providing this service, consumers can be certain, through direct contact and knowing their grower, that their food is produced in the safest of environments. We also began direct marketing to consumers in 1999 through Farmers markets, grocery stores and local restaurants. We believe in growing methods that improve our environment by enhancing the quality of our water, building our soils for healthy plants and by not using harmful chemicals in our farming. He introduced Honey Bees to the family farm in the 1820s and “bees have been in these parts ever since.” The Johnson beekeepers never trucked their bees around America, instead Ed Johnson purchased apiaries in Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. This approach enabled the Johnson family to offer a wide variety of honey – Orange Blossom, Tupelo, Clover, Sourwood and a variety of floral wildflower honey. Johnson Honey is minimally filtered; the results are traces of pollen, propolis and bees wax within each jar of honey. This in turn, provides an excellent source of vitamins, trace minerals and amino acids.

Sunday Morning Pancakes - Sunday Morning Pancake Mix started as an experiment on our kitchen counter. A few years ago, my husband started making pancakes every Sunday morning for our family and, while I embraced this fun, new tradition, the health factor gave me some pause. In search of a compromise, we tried mixing whole grain flours and then milling bulk grains in a one-cup coffee grinder. The final recipe includes nine freshly-milled, organic grains: wheat, rye, buckwheat, barley, brown rice, oats, spelt, milo and cornmeal, with a little flax for good measure. Dedicated to being a positive force in our food system, I procure high-quality, organic inputs as locally as possible. We've turned what once was a breakfast filled with over-processed, empty calories into a wholesome, nutritious meal that is still easy to prepare, locally sourced, and—most importantly--delicious! Heavier than a regular pancake but lighter than a hoe cake, Sunday Morning Pancakes boast a delightful flavor and hearty texture.
